In 14th-century, Giovanni Boccaccio wrote The Decameron, a collection of one hundred tales told in ten days by a party of ten young people who had fled from the Black Death in Florence, a plague that killed more than, 25 million people.
In 2020, as the global coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic sweeps the globe and climate-induced societal collapse becomes inevitable in the near term, I find myself wondering, 'What do we need to do, what should we be doing if collapse is something we need to realistically plan for?
The only answer I can take any solace in is this:
Eat well together. Share bravely. While we can.
When it becomes safe to gather, cook, and share again in person, we will.
In the meantime, I make food in my kitchen that I wish I could share bravely with others.
